Watershed Dynamics

Since 2001, Watershed Dynamics and Mark Schuetz have specialized in the improvement of forest health in northern New Mexico. This site was thinned 6 years ago.

Mark Schuetz is a founding member of the Taos Valley Watershed Coalition, which has been instrumental in bringing millions of dollars to local agencies for forest fire prevention work in northern New Mexico.

Forests, the Source of New Mexico's Water - when trees are unburned and well spaced. Watershed Dynamics has successfully completed more than four dozen forest thinning and slash disposal projects for the US Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, NM State Forestry, Taos County, and many private landowners in partnership with the Taos Soil and Water Conservation District's Fire Prevention Program. Our Dynamic Crew is Forest Worker Safety Certified - at an annual training hosted by the NM Forest Industry Association. The class addresses all current forestry protocol, first aid, and includes guidelines for safe work site operations. Workers are fully covered by Workman's Compensation, and all operations are covered by Contractor Liability Insurance.
Watershed Dynamics Collaborates directly with agency personnel and private landowners to fulfill specifications developed by Certified Professional Foresters. We always support landowner's preferences, honoring their desire to retain majestic trees on their land. We assist them to remove diseased and crowded trees that could contribute to forest fires near their homes. The reduction of forest density always results in a diminished fire risk, and creates an aesthetically pleasing forest. References available upon request.

Our Safety Record is Spotless

Firewood is separated and retained for the landowner if desired, or is removed from the site to prevent beetle proliferation. Slash is masticated or chipped on site to eleminate fuel ladders and to stabilize soils. Every project area receives both 'end of day' and an 'end of project' safety walk-through that verifies a stable site condition with work completed properly, tools stowed and safe fuel containment.
Trish Curran, Rio Fernando Fire Department
"Mark Schuetz and crew were knowledgeable, cheerful, hard-working and efficient. All the workers were exceptionally courteous of our property, our privacy and our preferences as they worked to implement the Taos SWCD forest thinning grant to specification.
